This site began with a wish to find other people to talk with about sumo.
Watching raises one question after another. Following them often means going back through older bouts and records, with plenty of detours along the way.
This is not an expert institution, and it is not trying to sound like one.
The point is simpler: ask the same questions a new sumo fan might ask, then check the answer as carefully as possible — preferably against primary sources.
Practical guides are concise. Research notes keep more of the curiosity and the detours.
If something cannot be verified yet, we would rather say that than guess.
Shiori is a character used in this publication. Everyday-life scenes and illustrations are creative representations; sumo records are checked against the sources named in each article.
