On an arrival or departure day, make your accommodation the first storage candidate, a current airport or railway facility the second, and a verified delivery service the third. Do not assume that IG Arena will provide a large-bag cloakroom for sumo or that it will accept your suitcase. Work backwards from where and when the bag must be collected after the final bout. A confirmed recovery plan matters more than the name of the storage service.
A suitcase at your feet affects comfort, circulation and possibly an emergency route. Removing it is a more useful first purchase than another viewing accessory. With only a compact day bag, the caller’s voice makes you look towards the ring rather than down at your belongings.
Ask the accommodation first
Pre-check-in or post-check-out holding can minimise route changes when it is available, but it is not universal across hotels, booking plans or unattended properties. Confirm the date, opening hours, maximum size, same-day collection limit, fee and building location through the accommodation’s own current terms.
On departure day, add the full return from IG Arena to the hotel and then to the airport or main-line station. A property close to the arena is not automatically convenient if it forces a difficult final connection. Compare the last journey after sumo and the first journey the next morning.
An installed locker is not a vacant locker
Chubu Centrair International Airport publishes baggage services and railway access. Storage, delivery and locker conditions differ by service and location. “Available at the airport” does not mean that a space in your size will be empty in your arrival terminal.
For a Nagoya or subway station locker, consult the transport operator’s current map and conditions. Check where the locker is located relative to the platform you will use, its access hours, payment method, maximum storage period and what happens when the station closes. Keep an accommodation fallback when capacity cannot be reserved.
Delivery needs a deadline and a receiving person
For an airport, hotel or courier service, verify acceptance deadlines, same-day coverage, delivery window, excluded items, compensation and who can receive the bag. Keep your passport, medication, ticket access, onward travel document and charged phone in the day bag. A successful bag delivery that takes your boarding document with it is not a useful success.
Where an affiliate link is appropriate, free hotel holding appears first, followed by official lockers and delivery under the same criteria. Commission never moves an option upward. Prefer a service whose failure and collection process you can understand before payment.
Work backwards through four stages
Write down:
- the time you genuinely clear IG Arena;
- the journey to the stored bag;
- collection, queue and closing-time margin;
- the airline or railway deadline after collection.
The final bout and bow-twirling ceremony do not end on a railway timetable. If failure to collect the bag would damage the trip, leaving early or travelling the next morning belongs among the safe outcomes.
In your first bout after dropping the suitcase, listen for the broom on clay between wrestlers. Removing the sound of your own wheels can reveal how much small work the arena contains. Travelling lighter does more than clear your feet; it creates room for one more sumo detail.
