IG Arena’s official opening information describes a three-metre-wide ramp with a 1:20 gradient to Level 2, three lifts including the underground-passage lift, and more than 150 wheelchair viewing places reached without steps. These are building features. Wheelchair and companion tickets, the gate in use and controlled spectator routes for the July 2027 sumo tournament still need event-specific confirmation.
The arena access page labels Meijo Koen as an approximately zero-minute walk and Joshin as about 18 minutes away. The zero-minute label signals proximity; it cannot mean zero elapsed time from platform through a lift, street, admission gate and seat. Check the station equipment actually used, outdoor section, crowd plan and July heat before choosing.
Separate physical provision from ticket permission
The official release says that the building has four entrance gates across Levels 1 and 2. Level 2 can be reached by ramp, escalator, lift or stairs. It also says wheelchair viewing positions include spaces that can be converted without construction and number more than 150.
That does not mean an ordinary reserved seat can be exchanged for any open wheelchair position on arrival. Before buying, ask:
- How are a wheelchair place and companion place sold?
- Are there size or operating conditions for manual and powered chairs?
- Which named gate applies to the ticket?
- Is the route from that gate to the place, restroom and exit step-free?
- If the visitor transfers to a fixed seat, where may the chair be kept?
The release also states that railings at wheelchair positions are 750 millimetres high to support sightlines. That design statement cannot guarantee the view from every sumo configuration; the temporary dohyo, exact position and other spectators still affect what is visible.
The station exit is not the arena gate
Record the station lift exit, a meeting landmark at ground level and the arena gate on one page. A gate letter is useful only when everyone knows which side of the building it identifies. Keep the Japanese venue name “IGアリーナ” available for local staff.
For July, minimise unnecessary outdoor waiting. Arriving extremely early is not automatically safer if shade, seating or indoor admission has not begun. Ask the organiser how accessible-ticket holders enter and what to do during severe heat or rain.
If the planned step-free link is unavailable
If the lift you planned to use is closed, a temporary route is too narrow, or the visitor becomes unwell, stop at the last staffed point. Do not have companions lift the chair or attempt an unknown step. Tell station or arena staff whether the chair is manual or powered, its overall dimensions, whether transfer is possible and which ticketed viewing place you need. Ask for the current alternative route; the safe answer can differ by equipment and event operation.
If no workable link can be confirmed before travel, contact the ticket organiser and venue before payment and compare a different ticket or date. This article confirms building features, not an uninterrupted route for every chair and every tournament configuration.
Once the route is no longer occupying your attention, return your eyes to the wrestlers’ feet. At the tawara, a wrestler under enormous pressure may rotate a foot only slightly and remain in the ring. The contrast between a huge body and a tiny change of route is one of sumo’s most addictive details.
Detailed description of this diagram
The FACT card shows transport arrival, building provision and event/ticket operation as separate boxes joined only by dashed lines. UNKNOWN places a stop block and broken links between endpoint tokens because drop-off, entrance, level change, interior movement, seat and companion continuity are not established by the pages. FALLBACK sequences stop, responsible-party confirmation and a confirmed alternative. It depicts no person, wheelchair symbol, station exit, gate, drop-off, floor, lift, gradient, seat position, assistance or dimensions.

Make One Night-Before Access Packet
Put the ticket or reservation response, wheelchair type and width, companion details, station-lift route, venue contact, and a second journey home in one paper folder or one phone note. This is preparation to reduce explanation, not an official admission guarantee. The event-day step-free route, transfer requirement, viewing position, charging and medical-device support depend on individual arrangements and remain unknown without a direct response. Keep that response in your hand at arrival. Show it to staff; if the expected route is unavailable, do not improvise around a barrier—use the waiting point or secondary route staff identify.
