Atamifuji’s profile says right-hand-inside belt wrestling. His recent results made me pause: push-outs account for 51% of winning finishes, compared with 29% for force-outs.
Two ways to reach the boundary
The displayed shares total 80%, in a JSA sample listing 55 wins. Both finishes send the opponent out, but a push-out does not require a belt grip; a force-out uses close body contact. This is more useful than simply remembering his listed 198kg weight. A bout can stay away from the belt and still arrive at his most common recent finish.
Seven straight to close July
At Sekiwake in July 2026, Atamifuji was 5–3 after losing to Kirishima on Day 8. He then won every remaining bout, including Onosato on Day 11, Hoshoryu on Day 13 and Aonishiki on the final day. His 12–3 earned a Fighting Spirit prize.
He had gone 9–6 at the same rank in May. September is his third consecutive tournament as Sekiwake. Those seven closing wins make the next chapter much more interesting than a rank label alone.
And outside the ring?
Asked where he ranks No.1 in sumo, he answers “energy.” Favourite foods include sushi, ochazuke and pudding. I came for the results and stayed for the pudding detail. He represents Isegahama stable and comes from Atami, Shizuoka.
