The JSA announced Day 1 makuuchi and juryo bouts, plus Day 2 makuuchi bouts, on 11 September. The tournament opens Sunday 13 September; Day 2 is Monday 14 September.
Kotoeiho begins against Aonishiki
After nine, ten and eleven wins in the last three tournaments, Kotoeiho reaches a career-high Maegashira 1. His first opponents are Ozeki Aonishiki and Sekiwake Fujinokawa. I want to see how his preferred grip holds up against this company, rather than assume his win total must keep rising.
Takayasu draws consecutive Ozeki
July Fighting Spirit Prize winner Takayasu faces Kotozakura first, then Aonishiki. Onosato closes Day 1 against Daieisho and Day 2 against Kotoshoho. Other pairings to note are Yoshinofuji–Fujinokawa on Day 1 and Gonoyama–Daieisho on Day 2.
Hoshoryu, Wakatakakage and Wakanosho are listed as absent from the opening day. These are announced matchups, not predictions. Check the official schedule for changes and the absence update before viewing.
