Read “190 cm” first, and you might picture a large wrestler pushing straight ahead. Yet alongside pushing, Oshoma’s listed strengths include inashi: redirecting an opponent rather than continuing to meet the force head-on. That makes me want to watch changes of direction and momentum, too.

Push-outs at 31%, with other ways to win alongside them

The Association’s preceding-six-tournament breakdown lists oshidashi, a frontal push-out, at 31%; hatakikomi, a slap-down, at 16%; uwatenage, an overarm throw, at 9%; and other techniques at 44%. Push-outs do not account for a majority on their own. When an opponent turns during a pushing exchange, does Oshoma move forward again or finish with another technique? I want to watch the few steps after they stop facing each other squarely.

From Makuuchi to komusubi in a little over a year

He made his professional debut in November 2021 and his Juryo debut in July 2022. He entered Makuuchi in May 2024 and reached komusubi in July 2025. In July 2026 he went 7–8 at Maegashira 5; his September rank was also Maegashira 5, on the West side.

Starting sumo at eighteen

In the Association’s questionnaire, he says he began sumo at eighteen. His favourite food is lamb, and he lists Korean dramas among his screen favourites. His announced opening-day opponent was Roga, who favours a right-hand-inside grip and force-outs. How long would Oshoma remain squarely in front of someone looking to grapple? After reading both introductions, the distance just after the initial charge became something I wanted to watch.
