The athlete he supports? “Me.” The thing he does best? His biceps. Asakoryu’s questionnaire makes me look twice. His official measurements were 178 cm and 122 kg. I want to follow not just his arms, but the feet that carry his pushing attack forward.

Alongside the push-outs are underarm throws

The Association’s six-tournament display showed oshidashi, a push-out, at 43%; shitatenage, an underarm throw, at 14%; and tsukiotoshi, a thrust-down, at 9%. A right-hand-inside grip and force-out sumo are also listed among his strengths. When a pushing exchange closes to a distance where he can reach the belt from inside, will he drive forward or throw? Watching which way the opponent’s body tilts may help me notice the change before the technique is announced.

Nine July wins took him to maegashira 13 in September

He went 9–6 at west maegashira 16 in July and was ranked east maegashira 13 for September. He began as Ishizaki in May 2021, reached juryo in September 2023 and made his makuuchi debut in November 2024. His questionnaire lists Baki as a favourite work and training as a hobby. I won’t confuse manga techniques with actual sumo, but I have another reason to notice those arms.
