A fictional miniature inspired by Daiseizan, in a purple mawashi and a stance working towards a right-hand-inside grip.

Daiseizan’s top-division debut in July ended 6–9 at east maegashira 16. His September starting point was east juryo 2. I want to remember his 191 cm, 171 kg build and his preference for a right-hand-inside grip and force-out sumo, then follow what came after those 15 days in makuuchi.

Force-outs made up 44%. The other wins matter too

The Association’s six-tournament display showed yorikiri, a force-out, at 44%; oshidashi, a push-out, at 8%; and tsukiotoshi, a thrust-down, at 8%. That leaves 40% outside the leading 3, so reaching a belt grip does not make every bout the same force-out. Can he get an arm inside when the opponent keeps his belt away? Once the right arm is in, which way can he move the other wrestler? I want to watch how he builds his position before looking back at the result.

The route from his 2022 debut

His professional debut was January 2022, his juryo debut September 2024, and his makuuchi debut July 2026. His official questionnaire mentions Eminem and Marvel works. His favourite saying has the sense of becoming a demon once he steps onto the dohyo. Kyokukaiyu, his scheduled September opening-day opponent, prefers a left-hand-inside grip, giving me a contrast between the positions the two men want.
