Seven Makuuchi wrestlers finished Day 6 at 5–1: Onosato, Kotozakura, Atamifuji, Churanoumi, Ura, Asanoyama and Toshinofuji. In Juryo, Kagayaki, Kayo and Kitanowaka extended their unbeaten starts to six wins.
Here are the results of our morning picks, followed by all 20 Makuuchi and 14 Juryo bouts. Outcomes, winning techniques and records are from the end of Day 6.
How the standings changed on Day 6
Seven Makuuchi wrestlers at 5–1; Churanoumi wins by kirikaeshi
In the final bout, Yokozuna Onosato beat Gonoyama by hatakikomi to reach 5–1. Kotozakura defeated Takanosho by tsukidashi, while Atamifuji beat Kotoshoho by oshidashi; both also reached 5–1.
Ura beat Asahakuryu by oshidashi, Asanoyama beat Hiradoumi by tsukiotoshi, and Toshinofuji defeated Chiyoshoma by yoritaoshi. Churanoumi won against Fujiryoga by kirikaeshi. Those seven wrestlers share the best Makuuchi record at 5–1.
Returning to the bouts we wondered about this morning
Wakamotoharu beat Oho by yorikiri to reach 4–2. Asakoryu lost to Kinbozan by okuridashi, finishing at 3–3; Kinbozan moved to 4–2.
Ozeki Kirishima lost to Yoshinofuji by uwatenage and finished at 4–2. Aonishiki lost to Fujinokawa by yorikiri and is now 3–3. Yoshinofuji earned his first win of the tournament to reach 1–5, while Fujinokawa moved to 4–2.
Three unbeaten in Juryo; Nabatame wins on his return
Kagayaki beat Nishikigi by oshidashi, Kayo beat Tohakuryu by tsukitaoshi, and Kitanowaka defeated Shirokuma by uwatenage. Kagayaki, Kayo and Kitanowaka all stand at 6–0. Daiseizan suffered his first loss, beaten by Sadanoumi by yoritaoshi, and is now 5–1. Tanji also reached 5–1 after beating Meisei by tsukiotoshi.
Nabatame returned on Day 6 and defeated Tokifudo by tsukiotoshi to reach 3–3. Tamawashi beat Dewanoryu by oshidashi to move to 2–4, while Enho defeated Tomokaze by oshidashi and is now 3–3.
