SUMO NEWS | 14 OCTOBER 2026
World sumo competition is scheduled in Baku, Azerbaijan, on October 17–18. Japan's federation lists men's and women's world and junior championships.
This weekend's sumo calendar extends beyond Japan's regional tour. The International Sumo Federation lists the Sumo World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, for Saturday and Sunday, October 17–18. The Japan Sumo Federation's 2026 calendar lists both men's and women's world championships and junior world championships on those dates.
This is an international sumo competition, not a professional grand sumo tournament or an overseas exhibition. When following coverage, it is worth checking which competition a report concerns: men's or women's, senior or junior. A quick look at the event name helps keep different sets of results separate.
As of October 14, this article confirms the dates, location and listed competition categories. It does not confirm athletes, draws or broadcast and streaming arrangements for viewers in Japan or elsewhere. If you would like to follow a wider part of the sumo world this weekend, start with the IFS and Japan Sumo Federation's official notices. Check those sources for schedule changes and further announcements.
