If you want to follow the individual competition that decides the student yokozuna, start with Saturday, October 31. The 104th national college sumo championships take place at the Ryogoku Kokugikan on October 31 and November 1. The Japan Sumo Federation announced the event on October 1.
The linked ticket page schedules individual competition across the classes on Saturday, alongside the Class C team tournament. Sunday brings the Class B team tournament and Class A team qualifying rounds and top-eight finals. Calling Saturday the individual day and Sunday the team day would miss Saturday's team event.
Would you rather follow one competitor's progress or a university team? Choose your day accordingly, then check the date on the ticket. A two-day event does not, by itself, establish that one ticket covers both days.
The October 31 listing shows doors at 9 a.m., competition at 10 a.m. and advance sales ending at 6 p.m. on October 30. These terms are for Saturday. Recheck availability, changes and each date's ticket conditions before buying.
