Updating Sumo Absence Records: Nabatame’s Day 5 and Day 6

Sources checked: 9 Oct 2026The worked September example is checked against the official records linked in the text.

A wrestler appears in a withdrawal notice, then turns up on the next day’s bout list. The useful question is: when was each announcement made, and from which tournament day did it apply?

Here is a worked record of Nabatame at the September 2026 tournament, checked against official sources on 9 October 2026. It covers one wrestler, rather than a release of every withdrawal that month.

Day 5: default loss. Day 6: a return

Record What it confirms
JSA notice, updated 17 September Withdrawal from Day 5 and return from Day 6
Official scorecard, Day 5 A default loss against Tanji
Official scorecard, Day 6 A win against Tokifudo
Final official record 9 wins and 6 losses

Compare the JSA absence notices with Nabatame’s official profile. Our Day 6 return preview preserves what was reported before that day’s bouts.

A withdrawal notice is not an extra loss or absence to add

The September scorecard contains nine ordinary wins, five ordinary losses and one default loss. That gives 14 contested bouts: 9 + 5. The official loss total is six: 5 + 1. Adding another “day absent” to the official 9–6 record would count the same day twice.

Keep participation notices in an event log, and decisions in a result table. The JSA legend also uses one symbol for rest or no bout; a day without a scheduled lower-division bout is not automatically a withdrawal.

Keep the official URL beside each row. Add later notices without erasing earlier ones. To repair a transcription, record the old value, new value, correction date and reason. If the publication time is unknown, write “not recorded” instead of inventing it.

One thing to try before watching

Choose a wrestler. Read the latest notice’s effective day, then open that day’s bout list and the scorecard. These records establish participation and results, not a medical diagnosis. Keep your viewing impressions in a separate note.

Continue with how to distinguish absences, defaults and no-bout days, or why absence comparisons need comparable populations.

Editorial update

This example and the link to our existing return report replace the earlier promise of an opening-day data addition. They do not represent a complete September absence dataset.
