Start with the admission ticket in the format you bought, what you need for the journey home, and personal essentials such as medication and glasses. If you are using a QR ticket, charge the phone that will display it. Binoculars and a light layer are useful additions if they fit comfortably in a small bag.

For Ticket Oosumo QR tickets, the display button appears in your purchase history at midnight two days before the event. The actual entry QR becomes available at midnight on the event day. These times are in Japan time. Check your booking and login beforehand, then open the valid QR on the day. See the official display instructions.

Distribute QR tickets to companions before entry. Screenshots and printouts are not accepted. A companion without a device should arrive with the purchaser who has one and speak to staff before entering. See the official distribution instructions and device-free companion guidance.

These QR instructions apply to Ticket Oosumo. For paper tickets or tickets bought through another seller, including local tour organisers, follow that booking’s collection and admission instructions.

Baggage decision flow: separate travel luggage from a compact arena bag, keep only what can remain with the visitor, verify off-site storage capacity, size, hours and collection before arrival, and change the itinerary if storage is not confirmed
An editorial luggage decision: 1 separate travel luggage from the arena bag; 2 ask whether it can stay fully with you; 3 carry only the compact bag if it can; 4 otherwise verify storage availability, size, hours and collection before travel; 5 change the plan if storage is not confirmed. The question-mark locker does not claim that Kokugikan has a suitable or available locker.
Detailed description of this diagram

Card 1 symbolically separates a wheeled travel case from a compact bag. Card 2 asks whether the compact bag can remain within an abstract personal area; the square is not a seat dimension. The upper branch leads to carrying only the compact bag. The lower branch leads to checking storage before arrival. Card 4 deliberately overlays a question mark on a generic locker grid, meaning that existence, vacancy, internal size, price, operating hours and collection conditions are not promised. Card 5 crosses out proceeding with the large case while storage remains unconfirmed and represents the editorial fallback of changing the itinerary after checking a real hotel, station or other operator. No venue aisle, seat or storage location or dimension is drawn.

Essential

  • the ticket in the format you bought, plus the device and login if it is a QR ticket;
  • a transit card, ticket or other way to pay for the return journey;
  • medication, glasses and personal necessities;
  • cash if a separately booked event explicitly requires it.

Useful

Lightweight binoculars

From upper chair seating, binoculars can reveal expressions during the shikiri—the preparation before a bout—and details in the gyoji’s costume. Do not choose by magnification alone. Weight, field of view and comfort with glasses matter during a long day. Use your eyes for the whole ring and binoculars for selected moments.

Power bank and correct cable

Charge both the phone and battery the night before. Confirm connector compatibility instead of discovering that the cable fits the wrong device at the gate. If flying, follow the current airline rules for carrying lithium batteries.

A light layer

Comfort varies with seat, crowd and individual temperature sensitivity. We do not claim a fixed arena temperature. Carry one layer that can be folded small rather than a bulky coat that becomes difficult to store.

Reduce

Avoid an arena plan built around a full-size suitcase, unused camera equipment or bags that must spread into a neighbour’s area. Check hotel or station storage conditions before the day and separate the overnight bag from the arena bag.

If the storage plan fails: a locker existing and a locker being available for this case are different claims. If it is full, too small, closed or impossible to verify, do not continue to the arena with the suitcase. Use the saved second provider. If there is no confirmed fallback, change the itinerary or entry time.

Before packing food or drink, check the official guidance for your event, venue and seat type. A grand tournament, a regional tour and different seating categories may have different conditions. Do not carry over the September Tokyo instructions automatically. Follow your ticket information to the relevant organiser’s spectator guidance.

Packing lightly leaves your hands free to applaud. Find one face with the binoculars, then lower them for the bout—the collision and movement make most sense when you can see the entire ring.
