I bought some bread on the way home, for breakfast tomorrow.
While my soup was warming for dinner, I opened the bag. Just for the smell, I thought. But up close, that end piece looked rather good.
I cut one slice and divided it in half. One half as it was; the other lightly toasted.
I left the untoasted half waiting on the plate so I wouldn’t finish it before the other was ready.
Side by side, the toasted piece was a little darker. Two little pieces, and I still had trouble choosing which to eat first.
Untoasted first. A pleasantly chewy middle, getting a little sweeter as I chewed.
Then the toasted half, with its crisp edge.
Oh, I like this one too!
By the time I wondered how the untoasted bread would taste dipped in the soup, I’d eaten both pieces.
I cut another slice. This one is for dinner.
The rest went back into the bag. Maybe I’ll toast some tomorrow morning. Though I’m not quite ready to give up on having it just as it is.
