Asasuiryu’s profile says pushing. His recent winning finishes say something that made me look twice: force-outs, 45%, compared with push-outs, 21%.

Getting close can be an attacking choice

The JSA display lists 53 wins, with under-shoulder swing-downs also contributing 8%. At a listed 175cm and 120kg, I had imagined a wrestler who would prefer to stay out of reach. The force-outs give me a better question: once he gets close, can he do the carrying?

These six tournaments were in Juryo. September 2026 is his top-division debut, so using the same finishes against Makuuchi opponents is a new chapter, not an established result.

The four wins before promotion

March brought 6–9, May 10–5 and July 11–4 at Juryo 1. From 7–4 in July, he closed with wins over Tamawashi, Midorifuji, Arashifuji and Hatsuyama. Those names make the promotion more tangible.

Meet the younger brother

His older brother Asakoryu also belongs to Takasago stable. They become the 14th pair of top-division brothers. Asasuiryu’s own favourites include public-bath visits, Sakanaction and Berserk. He comes from Shijonawate, Osaka, and previously competed as Ishizaki.
