Verify a sanyaku debut through the official banzuke topics and full ranking. The fact that a wrestler has reached komusubi or sekiwake for the first time does not prove that he feels pressure or has become an automatic ozeki candidate. Across fifteen days, track opponent rank, opening shape and one next-day adjustment.

Define the label before using it

Sanyaku can be used broadly for ozeki, sekiwake and komusubi, while the Association’s “new sanyaku” topic identifies first-time sekiwake and komusubi. State the intended meaning and separate a first promotion from a return to the named ranks. Confirm east-west side and number through the released banzuke.

Four daily fields

Record the opponent’s rank, official result, first shape after the tachiai and one choice changed or repeated the next day. A sequence of upper-ranked opponents should not collapse into “outclassed.” Note where the opening stopped and how the wrestler selected another entrance. Do not attribute pressure, injury or confidence without an authorised statement.

After every five days, count opponents at yokozuna, ozeki, sekiwake, komusubi and maegashira, but use that count only as an index. Rank alone cannot fully measure the difficulty of a particular bout. Keep the opponent’s official position beside the visible shape that actually developed.

Media attention often supplies words such as pressure, responsibility and wall. If the wrestler addresses those ideas in an interview, preserve the speaker, date and setting. Keep that attributed statement separate from your own observation. Even near kachikoshi, wait for the official schedule before writing about the next opponent.

I become especially curious about the second day against the same level of opposition. Does the wrestler repeat yesterday’s entrance or alter one hand? The thick rank label then opens into a series of small decisions that a beginner can actually see.

Review after day fifteen

Keep wins and losses, the number of opponents at yokozuna, ozeki and sanyaku, and the most repeated opening as separate measures. Wait for the official banzuke before stating promotion or demotion; a result is evidence, not the released address.

A makekoshi does not make someone unworthy of sanyaku, and a kachikoshi does not automatically confirm an ozeki campaign. End with one shape you want to watch again.
