Fujinokawa’s July 2026 record has Onosato on Day 2 and Hoshoryu on Day 3—both wins. Two Yokozuna beaten on consecutive days by a wrestler listed at 125kg.
There was still a tournament to finish
At Maegashira 1, he opened with a loss to Kirishima before those two gold-star victories. Later, 6–7 left him needing both remaining wins. He beat Nishikifuji and Fujiseiun to finish 8–7 with an Outstanding Performance prize. The closing days belong in the story alongside the famous opponents.
A pusher with a throwing surprise
His listed preference is pushing, but the recent six-tournament display leads with beltless arm throws, 19%, followed by push-outs, 15%, and force-outs, 13%. It lists 48 wins including one default.
A beltless arm throw uses the inside arm without taking the belt. Once he gets inside, watch how the distance changes. His height and weight are more interesting beside that winning technique than standing alone.
The name before Fujinokawa
He previously competed as Wakaikari. September 2026 brings his first sanyaku appearance, at Sekiwake. The Isenoumi wrestler from Kyoto’s Nishikyo ward lists The Blue Hearts and Dandadan among his favourites. That is another small reason to remember the name.
