Fukuoka Kokusai Center has a nursing space. Fukuoka Prefecture’s accessibility guide also lists a private diaper-changing room in front of the nursing room.
Those are useful facilities to know about before a family visit. However, the building’s equipment list does not establish the access route during a sumo event or whether strollers can be stored. Here is what has been checked and what to ask about.
Nursing and diaper changing
| Listed facility | Check for your visit |
|---|---|
| Nursing space | Which areas are open and the route from your seats |
| Private diaper-changing room in front of the nursing room | Access arrangements and what to do if it is occupied |
| Baby-care room in the prefectural guide | Hot water for formula, caregiver access and stroller arrangements |
“In front of the nursing room” is the location relationship given by the prefectural guide. The sources checked here do not establish a floor number or a specific entrance. Ask staff for the route to both facilities when you arrive.
Confirm stroller storage, parking and access to the seating area with the event organizer. Arrangements at Tokyo’s Kokugikan should not be assumed to apply in Fukuoka.
Ticket ages and special-package headcounts
The Japan Sumo Association’s general guidance requires a ticket for each child aged four or older. Ringside tamari seats are restricted to spectators aged 16 or older.
For the November 2026 four-person kids/senior masu B and C exchange-ticket packages, a family group must include at least one adult and a child aged 15 or younger. The event guidance says children aged three or younger also need a ticket if counted toward the package’s group size. Check the terms of your chosen ticket rather than assuming young children never count.
The whole group, including the qualifying child, must be present when exchanging the ticket, with proof of age. Exchange is available from opening until 5 p.m. Seats are allocated in advance; arriving earlier does not let you choose a better one.
As checked on October 2, the Association’s official November tournament page announces that tickets are sold out and directs visitors to its face-value resale service. If you are still seeking tickets, follow the official resale guidance there. Listings and successful purchases are not guaranteed. Secure your tickets before making travel plans that depend on attending.
A box or chairs?
Consider whether your child can sit on the floor, whether you can comfortably stand up while holding them, and how you will leave the seats for a break.
Chair seating is another option if floor sitting would be difficult. A masu box must also accommodate your bags and coats, so think about how the space will be used as well as the number of people.
Getting there with a stroller
Nishitetsu Bus may ask passengers to fold strollers on crowded services, special event buses or vehicles where the aisle cannot be kept clear. A large or double stroller may not be accommodated if it blocks the passage.
Fukuoka City Subway has wheelchair/stroller priority spaces in every car. The outdoor journey from the station to the venue remains a separate consideration: include walking distance, luggage and the day’s weather when choosing your route.
Having a second transport option for the return trip gives you more flexibility if everyone is tired.
Plan the way home, too
On arrival, ask about toilets, nursing and changing facilities, and re-entry arrangements. If several adults are attending, agree who will leave the seats with the child and where to meet.
Staying to the final bout need not be the measure of a successful visit. Leave room in the plan for a break or an early journey home if your child is sleepy or uncomfortable.
A picture on a ceremonial apron or the sound of a yobidashi’s call may become the part they remember. Choose a day that suits your family.
