The Japan Sumo Association published its September home-viewing guide on September 10. The tournament runs from September 13 to 27, 2026.
Starting points in Japan time
The guide lists NHK BS around 1 p.m., NHK General and NHK internet coverage around 3 p.m., and NHK Radio 1 around 4 p.m. ABEMA is listed from the start of bouts through their conclusion. These are approximate times, not a guarantee for every day.
Use the official viewing guide to reach the providers, and check the day’s schedule and access conditions. The Japanese services listed there should not be assumed to work in every country.
Give yourself one wrestler to wait for
You do not need to memorize a whole ranking sheet before watching. Try choosing one wrestler whose name you recognize. When that name is called, a long broadcast suddenly has a moment you have been waiting for.
After the bout, write down the result and one separate observation: a push at the start, a pause, or a change of grip. This is a viewing exercise, not a test of expertise. Tomorrow, you have something specific to look for again.
