Dewanoryu reached juryo in January 2026 and was already east juryo 1 for September. He had gone 9–6 at west juryo 3 in July. His scheduled opening-day opponent was makuuchi’s Shonannoumi, so reading about a juryo wrestler led my attention straight into a top-division bout.

His strengths are pushing and thrusting; 55% of the wins were force-outs

The Association’s six-tournament display showed yorikiri, a force-out, at 55%; oshidashi, a push-out, at 15%; and okuridashi, a rear push-out, at 8%. A wrestler who names pushing and thrusting as his strengths was winning many bouts by taking the belt and moving forward. Can he make an opponent retreat before they come together? Which arm does the other wrestler try to put inside after receiving the push? I want to watch the movements between a listed strength and a recorded finishing technique.

His own description: going at his own pace

He entered professional sumo in November 2019. His official questionnaire lists watching combat sports and Kingdom, and he chose going at his own pace as his standout quality. His favourite saying concerns training with an eye on where he wants to be in 3 years. I want to keep that longer progress in view, as well as the place he had reached at the top of juryo.
