I remembered Kotozakura as a right-hand-inside belt wrestler. His profile also says pushing—and push-outs lead his recent winning finishes at 22%.

Do not wait only for the belt

The JSA’s display of 46 wins lists force-outs at 13%, slap-downs at 11% and other finishes at 54%. A push-out ends without a belt grip. Watching only for his right arm to get inside would leave out the most common recent ending. The large “other” share also warns against reducing him to three moves.

The four wins inside an 8–7

In July 2026 he was 4–5 after nine days, then beat Oho, Ura, Hoshoryu and Shishi consecutively. He secured a winning record on Day 13 before losing to Onosato and Kirishima. “Just enough for a winning tournament” misses that four-day recovery.

A reply that invites you in

Asked what he does better than anyone in sumo, his questionnaire answer is essentially: “I don’t know—please tell me!” It made me smile while working through the results.

Kotozakura belongs to Sadogatake stable and comes from Matsudo, Chiba. His earlier names were Kotokamatani and Kotonowaka. He became Ozeki in March 2024 and has one top-division championship. His listed hobby is sleep.

Checked 11 September 2026 JST. Technique shares reproduce the JSA’s previous-six-tournament display (September 2025–July 2026); they describe winning finishes, not success rates across all bouts. Official profile, results and wrestler questionnaire.
