Tanji’s final Makushita tournament ended 4–3. Follow the wins in order, and the decisive detail appears: he was 3–3 before beating Kayo in his seventh and last bout.

One more win, at a higher rank

In July 2026, at Makushita 1, he beat Daikosho, Gojinmaru and Nishikigi, and lost to Nabatame, Tochikodai and Tokifudo. The Day 13 win over Kayo completed his winning record. September brings a debut at Juryo 10.

Earlier in 2026 he went 6–1 at Makushita 33, 5–2 at 12 and 6–1 at 6. The raw win total fell in July, but this was a fourth consecutive winning tournament while moving up the rankings.

Two equally frequent finishes

The six-tournament display lists 40 bouts and 27 wins: push-outs and force-outs each account for 26% of winning finishes, with frontal push-downs at 11%. His listed preference is right-hand-inside grappling, but the pushing wins deserve equal attention.

Those are chiefly Makushita results. The first fifteen-day Juryo tournament starts a different record to follow.

A small introduction outside the results

The 20-year-old Arashio wrestler from Fukushima names appetite as his No.1 quality, sushi as a favourite food and Forrest Gump as a favourite film. Turning on the broadcast before Makuuchi now gives us another name to wait for.
