SHIORI’S DIARY 009
While changing after work, I noticed a loose button on my cuff. After dinner, I brought out my little sewing tin.
I was changing after work when I noticed a button sitting a little loose on my blouse cuff. I gave it a gentle wiggle. It moved much more than the others.
Oh, good. I’d caught it before it fell off.
I draped the blouse over my chair with the cuff showing. Once I’d finished the dinner dishes, I would sew that one button back on.
It had been a while since I’d opened my little sewing tin. Against the ecru fabric, the white thread looked surprisingly white. The pale beige spool beside it seemed a better match.
It was only one button, but laying out a needle and scissors made it feel like a bit of a project. I cleared a space on the table and brought the cuff close, resting the rest of the blouse on my lap so it wouldn’t slip off.
As I sewed, I realized how rarely I looked closely at the inside of a sleeve. Usually, I just fasten the button and leave it at that. Even the narrow folded edge of the seam was neatly stitched.
I snipped the thread and gave the button a small tug. It didn’t wobble the way it had before.
Done.
I slipped my arm into the sleeve and fastened the cuff. Yes, just as it should be. I like that this cuff doesn’t fit too tightly, either. I slipped my arm out and laid the blouse back on the table.
I put the needle back in its pincushion and picked up the bits of thread. Then, just as I was about to put everything away, I touched the button once more. Still firmly there.

Back on the hanger. Maybe I’ll wear this again tomorrow.
