Try storage in this order: your accommodation, the station where your long-distance journey begins or ends, and then the Namba station area. A “locker room” on the arena’s general facility page does not prove that large public luggage storage will be available during grand sumo. Plan as if the venue cannot take your suitcase, and carry only a day bag that stays within your seat space.
Neither a masu box nor a chair seat creates a spare aisle for luggage. A large case can make your posture uncomfortable and affect companions or circulation. Spending several minutes on storage before sumo is usually easier than guarding a suitcase throughout a long tournament day.
Ask the hotel first
Contact the property directly about storage before check-in or after check-out. If it is available, confirm collection time and identification requirements. For luggage forwarding, check the receiving hotel’s policy, delivery interval and excluded items. Keep medication, passport, ticket access and essential chargers with you.
Do not assume that every hotel offers the same service because a booking platform uses a luggage icon. The property’s current answer controls the plan.
Break the journey at Shin-Osaka
Shinkansen travellers can consider storing a large bag at Shin-Osaka before using the Midosuji Line toward Namba. JR West’s station page and map identify coin lockers and a baggage service. They do not guarantee that the right size will be empty when your train arrives.
Save two candidate locations in the station and one fallback outside it. Check service hours and the route back from the subway. If both candidates are full, return to the hotel plan or use another staffed official service rather than carrying the case to the arena and hoping.
Identify the exact Namba station
Osaka Metro’s Namba information lists coin lockers, but the Namba transport complex includes several companies and widely separated gates. Record the line, gate, level and locker number. Photograph the route and check the closing time and payment method. “Namba locker” is not enough information after a crowded final bout.
Keep the arena bag small: ticket access, phone, medicine, water under current rules, a light layer and only the viewing tool you will actually use. With less to manage, you may hear the morning footwork more clearly. Luggage planning is not merely logistics; it creates attention for the dohyo.
Evidence limits and event-day fallback
Confirmed fact: Official arena, Shin-Osaka and Namba pages identify facilities and map symbols. A listing is a starting point, not a promise that a large visitor bag will be accepted on tournament day.
What remains unknown: Hotel custody, live locker vacancy and internal size, payment, operating hours, public arena storage and the retrieval queue remain unknown without the date and bag.
Reasoned inference: Storing the case at the hotel or long-distance arrival point is likely to reduce seat, crowd-flow and bodily burden. Confidence is medium; this does not infer vacancy or safety.
Editorial suggestion: Save two candidates and separate medicine, passport, ticket and communications into the bag that stays with you. This is editorial planning, not a facility rule.
Fallback: If candidate one is full, closed or too small, do not transfer the case to the arena; use a confirmed hotel, second station or formal service. If none can be confirmed, solve the case first and reduce the visit.
